Seminar Summary:
E-commerce, which is just a small component in the information technology spectrum, is expected to increase by 20 times in the next three years! This Seminar gives business leaders who have little or no background in this critical field the understanding they need to effectively implement information technology in their business. Basic terminology and concepts are presented along with methods of integration of information technology in a company.

About Our Author:
Dr. Joseph McRae Mellichamp is Emeritus Professor of Management Science in the Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration at the University of Alabama.

Dr. Mellichamp’s consulting, teaching, and research interests lie primarily in the area of applying artificial intelligence techniques in the design of complex manufacturing and communication systems. His research has been published in The Harvard Business Review, Management Science, Decision Sciences, Expert Systems, Interfaces, IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering, The Journal of Intelligent Manufacturing, Simulation, IEEE Networks, and other scholarly journals.

Dr. Mellichamp earned a Bachelor of Industrial Engineering degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology and the Ph.D. in Engineering Management from Clemson University. He has also been a Visiting Scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Mellichamp served on the Management Science faculty at the University of Alabama from 1969 to 1994. In addition to his teaching and research activities, he served as chairman of the Management Science Department, director of the Graduate School of Business and was Board of Visitors Research Professor in the college. He received outstanding teaching and research awards from the University of Alabama.

Dr. Mellichamp was principal investigator for contract research projects totaling over $1.25 million and served as a consultant for AT&T, General Motors, N.A.S.A. (The Space Shuttle Program), the U.S. Army (Strategic Defense Initiative), and other organizations.

Since retiring from the university in 1994, Dr. Mellichamp has lectured to professors and students at over 100 universities and colleges in a dozen countries.
